CIGALE: MUSIC AND MUCH, MUCH MORE

A BEACHSIDE BEATS AND EATS EXPERIENCE AT THE BAIE DE BEAUPORT

Presented by GURU in collaboration with Archibald Microbrewery

Quebec City, Thursday, June 9, 2022 – The buzz is building for Cigale, presented by GURU in collaboration with Archibald Microbrewery, and the Gestev team is thrilled to reveal the overall experience eventgoers can look forward to this August 6 and 7 at the Baie de Beauport in the Port of Québec. The music lineup is already plenty to get excited about, and the food and drink options on offer just keep adding to the long list of great reasons not to miss this year’s inaugural event.

EATS – Gourmet flavours to savour

“The food at Cigale is about way more than convenience, it’s part of the whole experience,” said Martine Delagrave, Vice-President of Experiential Marketing for Gestev. Roaming around this event’s gourmet food offerings is a treat for the senses, with the delicious scent of wood-fired pizza from Birra Baie, goodies fresh from the grill at La Boîte à fumée and the Chez Victor food truck, seafood prepared by Monsieur Pincette and Mexican-influenced eats from Taqueo. Imagine savouring oysters with the sand between your toes, sipping a sweet latte from Café Smith, and satisfying that craving with a vegan snack from Shaka Vibes. There’s something delicious for every taste, whatever the time of day!

To quench that thirst, the Archibald Terrasse is the perfect spot to sip a Cigale beer or another craft brew with a spectacular view over the river. And the SAQ Bistro is the place to be to get a grab-and-go local cocktail to savour with the sand beneath your feet. Ungava G&T, anyone? That’s not all: Simple Drop has the hydration covered for eventgoers at the end of a hot day in the sun.

BEACHSIDE – Plenty of activities to enjoy on the sand and in the water

The Baie de Beauport has earned its reputation as a place like no other to get away from it all, mere minutes from downtown. There are so many activities for eventgoers to enjoy here, even while the music is pumping. “Cigale is not an exportable concept, it’s an experience that’s tailor-made for the Baie de Beauport. The site is truly one of a kind, so of course we’re making the most of all the possibilities it has to offer,” said Martine Delagrave.

This is one of the few places in Quebec City where swimming in the river is allowed. And because that’s not the only way to have fun in the water, Cigale eventgoers can also look forward to free paddleboard rentals. And what’s not to like about a water playground to cool off in? More free and paid activities available to eventgoers will be announced soon.

Beach volleyball, spikeball, and good old frisbee-throwing are just some of the beach sports on offer for anyone who’d rather not get their feet wet. There’s something for everyone to enjoy! And to really channel that West Coast boardwalk vibe, eventgoers can take a stroll through the pop-up storefronts at Quai Silo 57 to pick up some local crafts and some sweet merch from the artists on stage.

BEATS – A solid musical lineup

As unveiled a few weeks ago, there’ll be close to twenty different alternative, pop, folk and electro artists performing on one of two different stages all throughout the Cigale event weekend. Saturday, August 6 sees some big names, with City and Colour and Icelandic rock band KALEO taking to the stage in a more intimate setting. There’s a certain special something about KALEO that lends itself well to the boutique stage and a superb natural setting like this. City and Colour, firm favourites for the Quebec City crowd, need no introduction. Kid Francescoli is sure to keep the crowd pumping for the final show of the first day’s festivities.

The next day sees Portugal. The Man wrapping up this year’s inaugural event. This is the hit band’s first time playing in Quebec City. Kim Churchill and his blond Aussie surfer look have some sweet folk-country-blues in store for eventgoers. It’s the perfect kind of music to listen to with the sand between your toes, Someone who can’t go unannounced is CRi, a super versatile DJ whose career is taking off and promises some special surprises for his set at the Baie de Beauport. A strong female presence is always a must, and the organizers are very proud to present a stellar lineup for Cigale, starting with Marieme, Quebec’s pioneer of the hip-hop scene. The all-female New Brunswick trio Les Hay Babies are right up there on the bill as well, together with all-female electropop duo Milk & Bone and the dazzling Noelle Scaggs, co-vocalist for the group Fitz and The Tantrums.

To top it all off, there’s Montreal-based collective The Franklin Electric, Andy Grammer and his iconic pop anthems, the inimitable Allan Rayman, Montreal artist Forest Blakk, Congolese-Quebec singer Pierre Kwenders, and Robert Robert and his electro beats to show the crowd a good time!

Partners in the Cigale experience

Cigale is grateful to a number of partners, without whose support this inaugural event would not be possible. The organizers extend their thanks to presenting partner GURU and supporting partner Archibald Microbrewery. A special shout-out goes to major partners SAQ and Solotech and official partners Simple Drop and Ungava Gin. Thank you to the event site, Baie de Beauport and vital public partners, the Port of Québec, the Québec government and Destination Québec Cité for their invaluable support.
