Videotron Centre to Host the World Cup of Tennis as CANADA Takes on FRANCE

Félix Auger-Aliassime Confirms His Participation in the Davis Cup Tie Taking Place September 18 and 19, 2026

Tennis Canada announced this morning that the second round of the Davis Cup Qualifiers between Team Canada presented by IGA and France will take place in Québec City on September 18 and 19, 2026, at the Videotron Centre. It will mark the first Davis Cup tie held in Québec City since October 4, 1974. The winner of the tie will advance to the Davis Cup Finals, which will be held this year in Bologna in November.

A presale for Gestev+ and Tennis Canada newsletter subscribers will take place on Thursday, June 11 at noon, while tickets for the general public will go on sale on Friday, June 12 at 10 a.m. at gestev.com.

Québec City native Félix Auger-Aliassime, currently ranked No. 5 in the world, has already confirmed his participation in the event. It will mark the first time in his career that he competes in a professional match in the region where he grew up — a moment that promises to be especially meaningful for him.

“I’m really excited that Canada’s next Davis Cup tie will take place in Québec City next September,” said Félix Auger-Aliassime. “It will be the first time I have the opportunity to represent my country in my hometown, and it will undoubtedly be a very special moment for me. I grew up here and discovered tennis here, and I consider it a tremendous honour to now compete in front of my family and local fans. I already know the energy from the crowd will be incredible, and I’ll give everything I have on court to help our team earn the victory.”

“We are thrilled to return to Québec City next September for our Davis Cup tie against France,” said Frank Dancevic, captain of Canada’s Davis Cup team. “It will be the first time since the 1970s that our team has the chance to play in Québec City, and we are already looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere a packed Videotron Centre can create. Québec fans are known for their passion and energy, and we know they will be behind us throughout the weekend. It will obviously be an especially meaningful moment for Félix, who will have the opportunity to represent Canada in his hometown, in front of his family and fans. We will arrive ready and motivated with one goal in mind: earn the win and qualify Canada for the Davis Cup Finals.”

The last Davis Cup tie held in Québec City took place from October 4 to 6, 1974, at the Pavillon de la jeunesse, located where the Videotron Centre now stands. Canada fell 4-1 to Mexico. At the time, Team Canada featured Réjean Genois, Anthony Bardlsey, Pierre Lamarche and Donald McCormick, who earned Canada’s lone victory.

Currently ranked 12th in the world, Canada will face a major challenge against sixth-ranked France, who will enter the tie as favourites. The French team also boasts impressive depth, including Arthur Fils (No. 19), Arthur Rinderknech (No. 24), Corentin Moutet (No. 32) and Ugo Humbert (No. 34), all of whom have represented France in Davis Cup competition since 2025.

The last meeting between the two nations dates back to March 4, 2016, when France earned a 5-0 victory on clay in Guadeloupe. Notably, Team Canada captain Frank Dancevic was part of the Canadian lineup at the time and competed in two matches.

As a reminder, Team Canada qualified for the second round of the Davis Cup Qualifiers thanks to a 3-2 victory at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver. Ontario’s Liam Draxl played hero by winning the decisive match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. With the win, Draxl not only secured victory for Canada, but also maintained his perfect Davis Cup singles record with three wins.

The players representing Canada and France will be confirmed closer to the event. Two singles matches will be played on Friday, September 18, followed by one doubles match and two singles matches on Saturday, September 19*. Match times will be announced at a later date.
*If the outcome of the tie is decided after the doubles match, the final singles match may not be played.

Tennis Canada also confirmed that TVA Sports will serve as the official French-language broadcaster in Canada for the Davis Cup tie presented in Québec City. Details regarding English-language broadcast coverage will be announced in the coming months.
