Canada now knows its path at the 2027 Women’s Volleyball World Cup. Following today’s draw, the 32 qualified national teams have been divided into eight pools of four, setting the matchups for the tournament’s preliminary round. This marks a key milestone less than a year before the international event, which will bring the world’s top players to Canada and the United States from August 20 to September 5, 2027.
From August 20 to 28, 2027, Québec City and Montréal will host the pool stage and Round of 16 matches of this international competition, the first of its kind in North America. At Centre Vidéotron, Québec City will welcome eight nations across two pools: Türkiye, the Dominican Republic, France and Egypt, as well as China, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden. Centre Bell in Montréal will host Poland, Germany, Slovenia and Cuba in one pool, and Canada, Serbia, Ukraine and Cameroon in another. The Canadians will therefore begin their tournament in Montréal and could potentially play in Québec City in the Round of 16, depending on their qualification and the official bracket.
“We are truly excited about the teams we will have the opportunity to welcome to Québec City! Türkiye, the European champion, boasts Melissa Vargas, considered one of the best players in the world. We will also welcome back the Dominican Republic, which won over fans during the NORCECA tournament in Québec City, particularly thanks to its spectacular libero Brenda Castillo. And who could forget France, which faced Canada before more than 10,400 spectators at Centre Vidéotron, setting a North American record! In our second pool, we will finally have the pleasure of hosting China, which could not take part in our VNL stop because it was hosting the competition itself. The Netherlands is also a strong, well-established team, while Sweden features one of the biggest stars in world volleyball, Isabelle Haak. In short, Québec City fans can look forward to top-level matchups and exceptional players. After the success of the VNL, we have every reason to be excited about this next major event!”
– Gilles Lépine, President of the Local Organizing Committee.
“The draw now allows us to really envision how the competition will unfold. For the Canadian players, competing at home in front of their fans is an exceptional opportunity. For local fans, it is a chance to discover the calibre of international volleyball and support our team in a highly competitive setting.”
– Guillaume Proulx Goulet, Executive Director of Volleyball Québec.
