A FIRST FOR CANADA AND QUÉBEC
QUEBEC CITY AND MONTREAL TO HOST THE 2027 FIVB WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL WORLD CUP
Videotron Centre and Bell Centre to welcome the world’s best volleyball players for Pool Play and the Round of 16
In a historic first for Canada and Quebec, the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) today unveiled the host cities for the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup, the sport’s premier international competition.
Canada and the United States were announced as co-hosts of the tournament in September 2025. Today, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo confirmed that Quebec City (Videotron Centre) and Montreal (Bell Centre) will join Omaha, Nebraska; Orlando, Florida; and Anaheim, California, as host cities for the prestigious tournament, which will bring together 32 national teams.
Quebec at the heart of the action
The FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup will take place from August 20 to September 5, 2027. Quebec City and Montreal will host the pool phase and Round of 16 from August 20 to 28, alongside Omaha and Orlando. The final rounds (the quarterfinals, semifinals and final) will then take place in Anaheim.
With more than 800 million fans worldwide, the first edition of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup to be held in North America represents an exceptional opportunity to shine a spotlight on women’s volleyball, showcase the sport on the international stage and further establish Montreal as a world-class destination for major sporting events.
“Quebec City has shown its passion for volleyball time and again. From the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship to two editions of the Volleyball Nations League that broke attendance records, fans have turned out with remarkable enthusiasm. Hosting the World Cup marks another major milestone for our community, and we can’t wait to see the city come alive once again for the best women’s volleyball in the world,” said Gilles Lépine, President of the Local Organizing Committee.
“We are tremendously proud to welcome the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup to Videotron Centre. This international event will further strengthen Quebec City’s position among the world’s leading sporting destinations. Videotron Centre is known for the quality of its facilities and the exceptional experience it offers athletes and spectators alike. We are honoured by the FIVB’s confidence in us and look forward to helping make this competition a success while giving every fan who walks through our doors an unforgettable experience,” said Martin Tremblay, President of Gestev.
An even bigger Fan Fest
Building on the success of the Volleyball Nations League, Place Jean-Béliveau will once again host a Fan Fest alongside the World Cup. Expanded for the occasion, this outdoor celebration promises an even bigger experience that brings fans together through activities before and after the matches.
A key stop on the road to LA28
As this major international competition makes its North American debut next summer, it will also play an important role in the road to the LA28 Olympic Games. The tournament’s new format raises the stakes considerably, with the three highest-ranked national teams that have not yet qualified for LA28 earning Olympic berths.
For Team Canada, which has already secured its spot at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games following its victory at the NORCECA continental qualification tournament, the World Cup will provide a unique opportunity to compete against the world’s best teams on home soil, in front of Canadian fans.
“This is a significant moment for volleyball in Quebec. Welcoming the world’s best players to a legendary venue like Bell Centre is an incredible opportunity to celebrate the women who are driving our sport forward and inspire the next generation of athletes,” said Guillaume Proulx Goulet, Executive Director of Volleyball Québec. “Women represent 70% of Volleyball Quebec’s community, making this World Cup especially meaningful to us. Quebec is truly a volleyball province, and we cannot wait to see the stands packed with fans cheering on the world’s best players and helping shine an even brighter spotlight on women’s volleyball.”
Taking place just weeks after the FIFA Women’s World Cup, 2027 is shaping up to be a landmark year for women’s sport on the international stage.
