A North American record for women’s volleyball and the VNL confirmed to return in 2027
The first women’s week of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) concluded on June 7 at Centre Vidéotron, following an edition marked by exceptional attendance of more than 31,000 spectators between June 3 and 7. The event came very close to the total recorded during the men’s edition in 2025, which attracted more than 34,000 spectators. Building on this strong momentum, Centre Vidéotron will once again host the VNL in 2027, this time featuring the world’s top men’s national teams.
The highlight of the week came on Saturday night, in front of a record crowd of 10,500 spectators, as Canada defeated France 3–1, setting a new North American attendance record for a women’s volleyball match.
“We are extremely proud of the enthusiasm generated by this edition of the VNL,” said Gilles Lépine, president of the local organizing committee, just minutes after the final match. “Spectators showed up in large numbers and helped create an exceptional atmosphere for athletes and volleyball fans alike. This attendance record reflects the growing interest in the sport in Québec and once again confirms Centre Vidéotron’s ability to host major international sporting events.”
Over five days, fans cheered on Team Canada as well as the women’s national teams from France, Germany, Japan, Ukraine, and the United States. The event also benefited from significant international visibility through its broadcast on VBTV and via Volleyball World’s media partners, including CBC and Radio-Canada.
“We are delighted with the support from the Québec audience, which created a remarkable atmosphere at Centre Vidéotron and provided teams with an outstanding platform to showcase volleyball at the highest level. I would like to thank our government and corporate partners, the local organizers, Gestev, and our outstanding team of volunteers,” said Alan Ahac, Director of International Events at Volleyball Canada.
Proudly presented in Québec by Desjardins, this second consecutive VNL edition at Centre Vidéotron was made possible through collaboration with the Rouge et Or Volleyball Club, Volleyball Québec, and several local and national partners.
